Paterson NJ Police Arrest Man Who Allegedly Fired Gun on Street

Paterson New Jersey Handgun Possession LawyersPaterson NJ police recently arrested a suspected shooter who was caught while attempting to hide behind a dumpster on a city street.

The arrest was made around 8:15 a.m. According to law enforcement, a Paterson police officer was on patrol, working a traffic assignment in the area of Summer Street and Broadway, when he heard the sounds of gunshots being fired.

The police officer was parked at a construction site in Paterson when he heard the gunfire. He went to the source of the gunshots and was directed by witnesses to nearby Hamilton Avenue.

When the Little Falls officer got to Hamilton Avenue, he found the 27-year-old suspect walking on the street and allegedly carrying a gun.

After spotting the police officer, the suspect allegedly tossed the black handgun to the ground and fled the scene. When additional Paterson NJ police officers arrived at the construction site, they set up a perimeter and canvassed the area in search of the suspect.

Police eventually found the suspect and recovered a .40-caliber handgun. Law enforcement later learned that the gun had been reported stolen out of Roanoke, Virginia.

The suspect faces serious criminal charges for discharging a firearm, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and possession of stolen property.

After the suspect was arrested and processed, the Paterson police director issued a statement praising the work of the police officers who made the arrest and commending the teamwork demonstrated by members of the Paterson police force.
