An 18 year old Teaneck man has been charged with multiple drug offenses after being stopped by Ridgefield Park Police, Saturday afternoon. Anthony Balzano of Teaneck was being held in the Bergen County Jail on a $50,000 bail for charges involving possession with the intent to distribute prescription drugs, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Police were tipped by a person passing by the vehicle Lt. Joe Rella said. Police Officer Brad Gilmore pulled Anthony Balzano over and he saw what looked like marijuana in the vehicle and then the Officer searched the vehicle. As the Officer was patting down Balzano he found marijuana and 73 Xanax pills.
Under N.J.S.A. 2C:35-10.5 which is Possession of Prescription Drugs. It involves the act of selling, possessing, and handling of prescription drugs. The charges range from a crime of the 2nd degree to a disorderly persons offense. In this case it is a crime of the 3rd degree because the amount was less than 100 but more than 5 or more pills. A person found guilty of a crime of the 3rd degree is looking at 3 to 5 years in New Jersey State Prison.
Under N.J.S.A. 2C:35-10 a(4) which is Possession of Marijuana. It involves possessing marijuana. In this instance it is believed that the amount was less than 50 grams and would be a disorderly persons offense. A person found guilty of a disorderly persons offense is looking at a fine and the possibility of spending up to 6 months in county jail.
