Thirteen Men Arrested in Paterson Prostitution Sting

Thirteen men, in Paterson this weekend were charged with soliciting prostitutes. Nine out of the thirteen were Paterson residents as well. Among the noted arrestees was Fuquan Edwin and Myles Mack. Both Division 1 basketball players well known to the sports world. They were both arrested for soliciting an undercover police officer for sex. The prostitution sting went on, at the corner of Market and East 26th street. The sting was done by the Passaic County Sheriff s Office after community leaders saw a rise in prostitution. Edwin and Mack were both graduates of Paterson Catholic and one played for Seton Hall and the other for Rutgers. The anti-prostitution sting conducted by the Passaic County Sheriff s Office focused on the corner of Market and East 26th streets, an area in the 5th Ward where streetwalkers regularly try to flag down johns, authorities said. The other Paterson residents arrested were Michael Cabrera, Robert Ates, Mohammed Islam, Jose Osoria, Josue Guzman, Elias Navarro, and Jose Rosario. In addition those from outside Paterson were Joseph Avad, Pascual Garcia, Kelly Sati, and Francesco Iudici.

Under N.J.S.A. 2C:34-1 which is Prostitution, is on the stratified scale. For the most part it is a disorderly person s offense. When it is a person s second offense it then becomes a crime of the 4th degree, and one is looking at up to 18 months in state prison.
