Paterson Woman Charged with Assault, Weapons Offenses After Alleged Domestic Dispute

After an alleged domestic violence incident between a Paterson woman and an unidentified man in Ridgefield Park, the woman has been charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon, and criminal mischief.

According to a report issued by the Ridgefield Park Police Department, 22-year-old Paterson resident Brianna S. Green is accused of cutting a 33-year-old unidentified male victim with a kitchen knife and slashing his tires. Police responded to the scene, near Bergen Turnpike, after being contacted at 5:53 a.m. on Tuesday.

A subsequent investigation led officers to Green, who was then arrested. The alleged victim was transported to a nearby hospital to receive medical care. Now, Green is facing serious criminal charges, and may also be required to appear for a final restraining order hearing if a temporary restraining order has been filed against her. Green’s bail has been set at $75,000 without a 10 percent option.

An increasingly common phenomenon in domestic violence cases involving weapons is the issuance of a charge for possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. In these instances, the weapon can be allegedly used to cause harm to a person or to damage property. Depending upon the specific weapon, these crimes can be classified as second, third, or fourth degree felonies, all of which entail terms of incarceration in New Jersey State Prison.
