Paterson boy, 14, allegedly had heroin in class, police say

In Paterson a 14-year-old juvenile whom attends an alternative public school for students who have behavioral problems was arrested, after a teacher allegedly saw him in class with 23 bags of heroin.

The student was later released to the custody of his parents after being charged with possession of heroin, intent to distribute and intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a school. He has been suspended.

According to reports on Nj.com Capt. Heriberto Rodriguez stated that the decision to release the juvenile to his parents and not hold him in juvenile detention was made by the Passaic County Family Court.
