Mahwah man admits guilt after girlfriend’s baby ingests heroin, report says

In Wyckoff, a couple is being charged with child endangerment after Tara Bradbury s baby ingested opiates at the home on February of 2014 according to prosecutors at Bergen County Office.

The 26-year-old Mahwah man pleaded guilty to child endangerment charges after his girlfriend’s baby nearly died after ingesting heroin, according to the Record.

Mark Tomat, 26, of Mahwah, admitted in Bergen County Superior Court to having heroin with 23-year-old girlfriend Tara Bradbury at her Wyckoff home on Feb. 15, 2014, according to the report.

The baby ingested opiates and was found unresponsive by paramedics, though a dose of Narcan counteracted the symptoms. The child was admitted to New York Columbia Presbyterian Hospital and fully recovered, Tomat’s attorney told the paper.

Investigators found drug paraphernalia and the anti-opioid dependence drug Suboxone in the home, Bergen County Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said last winter. He said detectives found multiple deleted text messages between Tomat and Bradbury that confirmed the couple knew the baby ingested the drugs and planned to deny it.

Tomat will be sentenced in April, according to the report.
