The Tormey Law Firm Obtains Desirable Result for Client Facing Numerous Drugs, Weapons Charges

In a recent case in Bergen County, New Jersey involving drug, conspiracy, and weapons offenses, The Tormey Law Firm, LLC. represented one of the defendants, facilitating the client in attaining a desirable result.

The case involved two defendants, a male and female, each of whom were arrested in Ridgefield, New Jersey on May 17, 2013. Ridgefield police arrested the pair after finding them in possession of drugs as well as a .45-caliber Hi-Point semiautomatic handgun. The female defendant was initially charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a handgun, illegal transportation or sale of a weapon, and conspiracy. The male defendant was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, unlawful possession of a handgun, illegal transportation or sale of a weapon, and conspiracy.

Lawyers for each of the defendants negotiated plea agreements with the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office on behalf of their respective clients. Under their separate agreements, the female defendant was sentenced to a five-year term of incarceration in New Jersey State Prison, with a minimum one-year period of parole ineligibility, after pleading guilty to possession of a handgun for an unlawful purpose. This is a crime of the second degree and is also subject to sentencing under the Graves Act. She has been held at the Bergen County Jail since the time of her arrest, with her bail set at $75,000.

The Tormey Law Firm worked on behalf of the male defendant to have the majority of the charges against our client dismissed. He was held at the Bergen County Jail for one month before posting bail, and was sentenced to time-served and probation for a period of two years, after pleading guilty to conspiracy.

The defendants received their respective sentences on Friday, February 7th. The female defendant is expected to be transported to the facility in which she will serve the remainder of her sentence.
